  • Newbie Question: Death Cap in Vintage Fender 3 prong corded amp

Hi folks, I am working on my 1973 Fender Twin Reverb. New B+, Cathode and Bias caps. While I was in there I adjusted the stock bias balance pot to balance milliamps across the 2 sets power tubes.
I also noticed that the stock ground switch has a .047uf cap from switch center position to amp chassis ground. The amp has 3 prong cord on it, appears to have been there from new, installed at factory.
Not sure, guessing here but it does all look old and stock. For the sake of my understanding, is the death cap needed with today's household grounded wiring? Can I just clip it out and remove any
possibility of 120 AC going through a possible failed cap to the chassis? Thanks, Keith

Peavey also uses that polarity capacitor.

But they use the modern version that can safely be used there (meant to OPEN at failure, not short)

    A 1973 amp?
I would clip it out (or simply not use it (Center Position of Switch).
