Morning all! I am aware of some of the various mods to extend the headroom of the 5e3 so that breakup comes in later. My question is can the circuit be modified such that both channels are "bright" keeping one of them the vintage early breakup and the other channel with extended headroom?

You can't have extended headroom unless you make more power. The amp makes 12 or so clean watts.
I know it comes on fast on the dial which some people don't like.
Sounds like you want to have a switcher and go from clean to mean ?
I do it on my Tele a different way.
I put the volume on the 5e3 to noon and dime the tone.
I then back the guitar volume down which scrubs some treble & cleans up the sound.
When I want a different timbre and/or some dirt in the sound I bring the guitar volume up.
Works great live.
