  • wondering what this is ?

    picked up an amp twin el84 tubes fender/sovtek in a gray and red cabinet maybe a pre amp ? ? will post pics

    most like just an amplifier would be a hell of a preamp using 2 el84s.

      Just looks like a low power generic amplifier. Looks like it might be home made to me.

            Sure looks like a Spitfire on the inside to me... nice little amps! A lot cleaner than my two, too...

                Looks like an old PA converted to an 18 watt Marshall variant. Spitfire, whatever. I would bet it was originally a 6v6 amp. Probably screams if you put a Tube Screamer OD pedal on the input and run it through a decent 12" speaker. You might get a little more out of it by replacing the tube rectifier with bridge rectifier if the B+ is on the low side for el84s and may have enough heater current for another pre tube if you are interested. Certainly a lot of real estate there.

                    It's a really nicely built amp, congrats on a great acquisition.

                    The master volume is post-phase-inverter.

                    EDITED: I'd suggested bypassing the cathode resistor with a 250 uF cap, but I think that's what the last cap on the board is doing
