effects loop idea

  • Such errors in DIY / hobbyist designs are understandable, of course we've all done (and maybe carry on doing) similar 'oops' things.
    But this is the hallowed Dumbleator, by implication the prime example of how to do a proper fx loop.
    Then pro boutique D type builders such as Bludotone are apparently following in line with close copies of that, sticking in a 250k send pot with switchable bright cap.
    Why doesn't anyone revise this basic design flaw?

      Because they find fault with the tone of more proper circuits? Likely having failed to properly diagnose the origin of the offending issue. The bright cap did something they liked. A proper effects loop didn't.?.

      • Just to put the icing of the cake of its design classic status, I've noticed that the Dumbleator and its D boutique commercial clones (eg Two Rock, Bludotone) have a HT standby switch.
        Yes, it's a single 12AX7 circuit, which is perceived to require a delay before HT is energised http://www.two-rock.com/ownermanuals/Eli_Manual.pdf
