I have a few questions; Are the slug poles of a humbucker upposed to be "slideable", or should they be glued in,or does wax potting hold them in place. What is the rip on brass baseplates, is it a durability issue, a tone issue, or appearance? Is the wax usually cleaned off a pickup face after wax potting, or is the wax left on for a "handmade" appearance? Thanks.

The slugs should fit pretty tightly in the bobbin. You do slide them in, but it takes a bit of effort.

Many feel brass baseplates don't sound as good as nickel silver. Brass is more conductive and creates eddy currents which can dull the tone of the pickup.

I don't wax any of my pickups so someone else will have to answer those questions.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
