    Welome to the forum.
I've had a similar problem that you are talking about where the pickup reads differently.
My issue was my meter DMM.
I have several DMMs, and one will read eratically at times.
To temorarily fix it, I rotate the switch a few times, and replug the meter leads, then it reads fine.
Before cutting any more pickups a part, please check you Meter.
That may not be the issue, but worth checking!

Funny, after I posted I thought to myself possibly a meter issue. Replaced the batteries and reseated the probes, turned it on and off a couple times. However, I already cut open the coil and currently re-laquering just incase. Thanks for the hasty reply!! Hope the next one is the final. I find there is so much Voodoo (or Variables) with pickup winding that its sometimes hard to nail down what you, or someone else, has in their head.

        Glad to help.
Another thing to check if you have another that reads low?
Check to see if any of the rod magnets read to the start lead.
A shorted magnet, can cause that.
