  • Strat & Tele Coil Heights

Hey all. I'm trying to put together a more or less comprehensive list of coil heights.

I thought I had something going but as I check what I had with some actual pickups (as I encounter them), nothing really correlates.

Anyone care to share their data? You know, for science?

The coil estimator, lists standard height between the flats.
    Coil Estimator
The Rewind Thread also lists some dimensions, here and there.

Sure, but that's not exactly comprehensive. The estimator has one Strat pickup and 4 Tele Pickups (as far as vintage pups) which all show the same height.

Here's a stupid question. What are the "VN's" in the estimator? I always thought they were imports but I guess I'm not 100%.

Vintage Noiseless maybe ,judging by the height it may be a stack design .

What most of us do with SC pickups, is start with standard height.
for a Strat it is 11mm, or around .435" between the flats.
If you want the pickup brighter, make them a little taller (neck).
If you want fatter, rounder, make them a little shorter (bridge).
Experiment and see what you get.
I like a bright tele neck pickup so I go tall.
          Close to 1/2".
You are limited on tele neck height by the cover.
If too tall the cover want attach properly.
The tele bridge can vary in height from around, .45", to .50".
