  • Epiphone EB-0 pickup

A customer brought one of these Short scale Bass EB-0 ,here today for me to see if i can do something with the pickup as it is terribly muddy sounding .
I guess its one of those Mudbuckers ..which is what some sort of sidewinder ? maybe not .I measured the dcr & it reads 1.2k . I will be a day or so before i get a chance to get inside of it to look at it . I know the sidewinders I've made are really bright & maybe a good remedy for this .
Any way just wondering what have you guys done to improve the tone of these ?

That's a sidewinder but check that DCR again because 1.2k sounds very low. I'd think it should be in the 12k-24k vicinity.

Checked it again & it is 1.2k & i can see the wire of the coils ..It looks massive like whats on transformers probably 34 gauge or larger

Original Gibsons were about 20,000 turns of 42 per coil 14.5K per coil and 31 or 61 henries total- not sure which as my notes are a little blurry there. Crazy. 29K total in series
