Where does the gain stage end??

It seems reasonable to think that the .02uF cap decouples the firs stage and the 2nd stage, so the plate side of the cap and everything previous is the 1st stage and the the grid side of the cap would be the beginning of the 2nd gain stage. I guess it also seems reasonable to think that everything preceding the 2nd triode is the first gain stage and the grid of the 2nd triode is the beginning of 2nd gain stage. But which one is it?

What's the proper place for this ground is why I inquire.

ground the grid resistor with its cathode resistor companion. Use the second triode ground.


The 0.02uf cap COUPLES the two stages, not decouples. Decoupling is what the B+ "filter"cap does.
