  • Switchcraft Stereo panel jack question.

    Hey All,

I'm in the middle of a rewire on a Hamer and came up with a question.

    I have one of these:

There's 2 lugs at the hot end 1 is shorter than the other- does it matter which lug I use for signal and which gets used for switching ? I'm using the jack to turn on and off an onboard preamp battery.

    Thanks, Dan

Yes it matters. The short lug is the tip, the next one is the ring. The signal goes to the tip of the plug.

Double check by plugging in a mono cable and use your meter to see which lug has continuity with the tip of the cable. The other lug will be shorted to ground.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
