Total count is to the left. On the right the number is for that particular post. So if he had '0' in the post you were looking at, what happened is what I would expect (-1 to 0 and your name removed)

Any member can see who gave both Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down by hovering the cursor over the number just left of the down thumb.

Edit: I would not want the votes to be anonymous. A "thumber" should have the guts to identify the thumb.
As mentioned above, you have to do that hover at the particular post where the downvote occured. Agree about votes should not be anon.

Well, not exactly; it's actually a "plug-in" for the vBulletin software, developed by a third party not affiliated with vBulletin, as was the "Llke" button before it and the "Post Thanks" button before that.

I like the thumbsdown option. Should we ever come across more of the type like "those who shall not be mentioned" it gives the option of stating an opinion without a long diatribe. That is, since thumbsdown will likely be rare, it's application would discredit misinformation easily. If a problem persists then corrections could be made, but I think the thumbsdown option may actually improve efficiency overall.

Well, the thumbs down option could refer to, say, a news article referred to in the post rather than the post itself, although that could reflect poorly on the person making the post if we were keeping count.

BTW I noticed that on the very bottom of the page the link to "Music Electronics Forum" brings us to the Activity Page, as do many of the "Forum" links on our pages. I do like the Quick Navigation buttons directly above the << Previous Thread | Next Thread >> bar...

Sure, but a thumbs up could also refer to the quote rather than the poster.

I think up/down ought to be with identities. Otherwise some twit with a gripe can sit there thumbing you down repeatedly out of spite.

I never used the Likes...too facebookish.

I mostly used the 'like' in the same manner as the 'thank you' it replaced because I was used to that (and we're big on 'thank you' and 'sorry' up here, dontcha know ). I never knew about the facebook 'like' until later as I have yet to join and only heard about it.
So apologies to anyone who thought I meant a 'like' in the facebook manner, I did not. I meant 'thumbs up'.

I always used the "like" for witticisms and clever, attuned, truly helpful or just generally useful information that added to the quality of forum content. The thumbsup option will work fine for that. I'm good with this.

Well. that was an easy fix; all I had to do was look at it "backwards" and the "problem" went away on it's own!

I will treat Thumbs Up as "Thank you for that useful post / insightful or witty remark" and Thumbs Down as "That is BS / Just repeating internet lore / Downright wrong or dangers information." As a courtesy to all I expect that a thumbs down will need to be followed by an explanation.

I take it that the third party plug ins are the reason that past "Thanks" and "Likes" history is not carried forward. I hope it never morphs to "Thanks for sharing that."

    Cheers,
    Tom

Yes, but all of the "Thanks" and "Likes" data has been preserved, and sooner or later I'll get around to merging it back in with the current "Thumbs-Up" data. I just took a peek and found a total of 73,130 likes given, 6,414 of which belong to Enzo.

Just kidding. I know your reasoning and it actually works out well enough. Anyone would enjoy a "like" from you. It's the guys getting all butt hurt that they didn't when a problem arises Easier to stay out of it. It's the very reason I don't *acebook.
