I figured some of the vintage pickup guys would jump on this!
Thread is already 6 days old, at time of this post!

Here are some humbucker pickup building fundamentals, including taping.
We all do things a bit different, but this will get you close.

I could give him some tips on bobbin screw installation, but all in all not a bad demo, and we appreciate him sharing his project.
So many guys won't share anything anymore.
    Good Luck on the repair,
    T

**Also if you are not installing metal covers, I tape both bobbins on completed pickup with .450, or .50 #11 black fabric tape.

If using metal covers I leave off the #11 tape.

***also an observation, is winding direction.
I wind on the right arm, top going. (Counter Clockwise)
In the video he winds on right arm top coming. (Clockwise)
Most of the humbuckers made these days are wound CCW.

How old is your purple wire Gibson humbucker? Might be best to let a pro mess with it if you're talking 50s or 60s.
