    New Laptop Deals?

Every fall I try to find a deal on at least one New laptop.
They are usually at the rock bottom price around black friday.
I'm in the market this fall for a new laptop.
If you see anything of interest, please post it here.
    Please New computers only.
My wife and I had 5, but I gave a couple away, and now down to 3.
I need at least one more, If I can find the right price!
    Thanks,
    T

    Here's a Dell i5, 1tb HD, 8gb RAM, for 429.
I've never owned a dell before?
    https://www.officedepot.com/a/produc...Series-Laptop/
This is very similar to the HP i5 I bought last black friday for 399.

    Here's an i5 1tb HD, 12gb Ram, for 529.
It has a light colored keyboard, and would be easier to see watching TV in the dark.

Here's one I like the looks of.
    https://www.officedepot.com/a/produc...70-Laptop-156/
    i7 8th generation processor
128gb ssd, and a 1 tb Hard drive.
    8gb ram
    15.6 led screen
    $549.99
    Reg price was $799.99
    Silver case and keyboard

I need to take a trip to Office Depot
It boots off the 128 ssd, and can use the 1 tb for file storage.
I think the 128gb ssd is upgradable to 256gb.
    A 256gb m.2 ssd is around $50
I could leave the Win 10 boot os on the 128gb, and 1tb HD.
Put a 256gb in for boot linux, and I have lots of used 500gb, and 1tb drives I can use for file storage for Linux.

Looks like an okay deal if it's a full HD screen. Does the laptop have an external port for the 2nd SSD?

According to the ad, it has HD screen.
As far as external ports, it has the standard laptop ports.
    3 usb
    1 hdmi
    1 network
    1 SD camera card slot
    1 speaker jk
    1 charging slot
1 Internal 2-1/2 sata 1 tb hard drive
    1 internal SSD m.2 drive 128gb
    No optical drive
    No mic jk
    no modem jk

I always modify my stuff and install linux, I take off the MS Windows.
I'm going to check it out tomorrow at the local office depot.
I used to always buy laptops with optical drives.
Now days I never use them, and they just add weight and take up internal space.
However, I really do use the usb3 thumb drives.
I still use the SD camera media drive, for my trail camera media.
This laptop has to be disassembled like my HP laptops, to do anything with the ram or internal drives.
Take all the screws out the back, then you have to unsnap it from the top.
I miss the days of the removable doors on the rear of the laptop.

After making a trip to local Best Buy, and Office Depot?
Office Depot seemed to have the best sales right now.
I looked at the Dells, and they seemed cheap, and fit and finish is not great.
They also don't have that good of reviews.
    I liked the HPs better.
They have a Acer Swift 3 that I really liked the looks of.
All aluminum case, only 3.75 lbs, $499.99.
    https://www.officedepot.com/a/produc...op-156-Screen/
    15.6 inch HD screen
    8th gen i5 processor
    8gb ram
16gm of optane memory (a new feature which is between ram and sata hard drive, it speeds of the hard drive seek time)
    1tb sata hard drive

    I'm still looking.

    Black Friday Today!

    I bought this one.
    The one I'm interested in:
    HP 15.6 inch touch screen
    i7 processor, 8gb Ram, 1TB Hard Drive
    $449, it had been $800
I took the existing hard drive out and stored the win 10 drive, in case I need to put it back for a bios updating, or something unknown?
I put in another like new 1TB drive, that came out of the one I bought last year. I formatted and put linux on it.
It all set up and loaded pretty quickly.
I spent off and on 4 hours trying to get the wifi network to work.
Wifi wouldn't work with any live linux, I put on it. That included the Ubuntu's and I also tried live Fedora.
Finally figured out what realtek wifi adapter driver was missing and it took a while but I finally installed it.
The Realtek RTL8821CE Wifi hardware, it's driver is not currently included in the Linux kernel, so it had to be manually loaded.
Drivers are harder to install in linux, but doable!
This is going to be a fine addition to the laptop stable!
    Santa came early!
    TBC,
    T
**Also bought a deluxe wireless logitech m510 mouse, on sale for $15, regular price was $40.
Haven't broke it out of the package yet.

I have the new i7 HP Laptop all loaded and operational.
It is very fast and quiet.
It is lighter than my other laptops, it has no Optical drive.
I never use it, I do everything with usb sticks.
They cheapened up the laptops by putting everything inside the snap together case.
To Access the Ram, Hard drive, and even the battery, it is all inside.
    The i7 is a 7th gen 7500U 4 core processor. (discontinued model)
The newer more expensive i7 gen 8 processor, is the newer 8 core type. (current models)
Maybe I can get a deal on one of those Gen8's next year!
Here's a few screenshots, that look just like my other Ubuntu linux laptops.
