  • Caver PT 1250 SMPS Caps

I've got a bunch of Carver PT1250s here. They have a primitive SMPS which uses a pair of series 2700uF 200V Sprague electrolytics for high-side smoothing. (this is the 230V model BTW). These have burst on several of the amps.

Is there any earthly reason that I shouldn't replace them with a single 1500uF 400V device, provided that ESR and ripple current spec exceeds those of the originals?

I'm guessing that large, high-voltage electrolytics weren't available when the amps were built in the mid 80s.

No reason not to, if they physically fit. Price seems to be on par now either way.
