  • Poof! Well it ain't gonna work now!

Got a JBL EON 510, going through the test/troubleshooting guide.

Power amp works great when using an external dual power supply, but while going through the SMPS testing the FAN7380 gate driver smoked.

It would probably be easier to make up a regular power supply, throw in a power trans, bridge and a couple caps.

All you need are =/- 20volts to drive the damn thing.

The supply is +/-40V at say 500W. That's a decent size & weight. I suggest you replace the gate driver and whatever components after it that are bad.
Experience is something you get, just after you really needed it.

Well the SMPS wasn't working before.

Ooh, I just found another gate driver on something else!

Think I'll try it and see what happens!

Do you have a schematic for the 510?

        I only have the 515.
Older unit, similar layout but on the 510 there's no +/- 15v regulators.

Connecting external power supply +/- VCC to the +/- 5v regulator inputs powers unit up and it works fine.

replacement boards are ~ $130 but owner doesn't want to put that much into it, so I told I'd fool around with it in my spare time to see what I could do.
