  • Telecaster Bass pickup dating

    HI

Has somebody knowledge to date that single coil Telecaster Bass Pickup?

It is from my '68 Tele bass, Neck butt: 23 JUN 68 C and neck plate: 23578*. The body has a little inkstamp under the pickguard: 358 (week 35, year '68). It is quite probable a (factory) replacement. Those basses have a humbucker from 1972.
I think 18 or 8 is some winder or factory code. 5 week day (Friday) or (wrongly) Precision bass (Tele bass was kind of reissue for '51 P Bass). 47 is the week and 3 is 1973. Or 4 is the week and 73 the year. ??

    This link may be helpful

    This one too

If I am reading the code correctly it's 185473 which would be a 73

From the links above I would think week 18, day 5, operator 4

      HI
Thank you. First link was new to me. I believe too, that the code is 185473, and the year is 1973. The PU code markings seem to vary much more than other codes (pot, neck etc.).
The pots are from '66 and '74. So I believe someone replaced the broken PU and scratchy pot perhaps in 1974. A bit particular is that 7ender started to use a humbucker in 1972 but they have still made a single coil PU in 1973. There could be many broken single coils.
