  • Blues Deluxe reissue odd issue

Complaint is that it cuts out and comes back repeatedly. Sure enough, it works for about 1 minute, then abruptly cuts out for 1 minute, then comes back on, repeatedly. Tubes stay lit, confirmed it is not the power amp in jack. I find that with the drive channel switched on, the LED goes out when the sound cuts out. Working with signal feeding power amp in jack, sound cuts out and LED turns off together.

I go looking to monitor the 16 volt supplies. I put a lead on D13, and the amp stops cutting out for about an hour. Hmm. Pull the lead, and poke around the 16 volt supply area with a chopstick, and amp cuts out, as does the 16 volts at D13. Without pulling the board, I hit the solder joints on D13, D14, and two cement resistors R78 and 79. I'd like to hit C40 and 41, but maybe it did the trick and don't have to pull this board.

So far the amp has not cut out again. Odd that putting a lead on D13 would stop it from cutting out, maybe just a slight pressure or voltage from the meter? I'm not sure, but if it stays working today, it's going home.

It's weird, because it WAS working fine.....

Yeah, cold solder joint--you budged it with your probe. Likely scenario. LED cutting out along with sound is a clear indicator the issue was in the LV supply, so you're on target!

It's been running right for some time, so I'm going call this one a wrap.
