  • Speaker(s) for Magnatone Custom 410

Picked up a Magnatone Custom 410 that someone did something funky with. It had an 8" 8 ohm Jensen MOD speaker kinda mounted to a piece of plywood that was screwed to the original baffle. Looking at the info and schematic on the Magnatone amp page (https://www.magnatoneamps.com/410.html) it should have a 12" 4 ohm speaker paralleled with a 3" 4 ohm + capacitor. There is even a picture of the speakers on the page. Mine only has a cutout and mounting studs for the 12". It seems like all of the other models from this era used just a 12" 4 ohm speaker. Should I assume that is what I want to put in? Any suggestions for great sounding but not that expensive a speaker to put in? All my 12" speakers are 8 or 16 ohm.

    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

I like the Jensen Mod speakers for an inexpensive yet decent sounding speaker. The tweeter (whether it's there or not) would have little effect on overall impedance because of the crossover cap and it only responding to high frequencies, so yes- I'd look for a 4 ohm 12" speaker.

You don’t need the Tweeter.. especially if you plan on overdriving the amp. I’ve used Eminence speakers with good results in similar amps.

Thanks guys. Did a bit more googling and apparently Magnatone did this kind of thing with a few different models. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/in...stion.1498074/
