  • Need help with identifing rectifier bridge

    Hi all, first post here.

    I have an old solid state amp (Ibanez GX30) with a broken rectifier bridge. I am unsure which part to replace it with. It reads "RB 15 2 24A". Incidently, I have two of these amps and the other amp which is working properly has a different partnumber for the rectifier bridge, (RB 15 2 29C), if that can be any help in identifying a working spare part. The AC connectors are placed at the far ends and not in the middle as most modern parts I've seen. I guess I can build a RB with 4 diodes if someone could help me choose diodes with the correct value for this type of rectifier.

    Unfortunately they no longer produce a bridge with that exact pin out. The outer pins are the DC side now so if you fitted a standard bridge the pins will need carefully re forming into shape. This will give you the idea.

    Or use four 5A diodes and form them into a bridge with the correct pin out to fit the board.

      I happen to have 4 pcs of 6A6 rectifier diodes, they're 6A 600V right? Will they suffice to build a working RB, you think?

        6A is sufficient to run the amplifier I should think.
        Before you solder the diodes together, have a go at forming them to fit the pcb holes. Once soldered it is difficult to move them if there is a mistake. Leave long legs for cooling.

            Thanks for helping me out. I have a bunch of 1N5408 diodes too, they are 3A 1000V. Could I use those instead of the 6A6? They are a bit smaller and probably easier to fit than the latter.

              3A is a bit close for comfort but maybe OK. If they fail, at least you know what the issue is.

                Yes you can use 1N5408 diodes, only carefully polarize them.

                  While doing some more troubleshooting, it seems I found a blown transistor too. Can't seem to find a part that matches this one excactly but will any D667 type of transistor work you think? Attached is a photo of it.

                    There is an understood 2S there, so the part is a 2SD667.

                      Transistor Q109 (2S)D667 is universal NPN low power transistor 80V/ 1W.
