  • Old MXR Vintage 10 band EQ

have a 10 band MXR from the 1982. It's obiously made for the us
market cause inside it it says 117 volt. ( I live in Norway, 220volt)
Strange thing is that the voltage is supposed to be connected via a 'minijack- plug'. Does these pedals need a direct currence of 117 volt or is it another form of connection?
If you guys know anything about this, can any mod be applied, fx to make it
into 9 volt? Or better sounding.
I have never tried it, because I never had the right currence.

I have asked the maker of MXR today, but they declined to help me.

    Can you post a photo?

Looks like your pedal has been modified to use an external step down transformer; however, the mod is not done right. The MXR 10 band graphic EQ requires +/- 15VAC. So, you will need a 230V to 30VAC CT (center tapped) step down transformer. You will have to replace the power jack with a 3 conductor jack or wire your external transformer directly to the board. See the attached photo.

          Good luck!

            Hi. Wonderful.

            But do I need a stepdown transformer if I have a + / - adapter that delievers 15 v?

If you have a +/- 15v AC to DC adapter the wiring will change dramatically. I would remove the full bridge rectifier (mark the + and - terminals before removing) and solder the +15vdc wire to the + terminal, the -15vdc wire to - terminal and the GND wire to the pc board ground. If you are unsure how to do this I would recommend you find an experienced technician in your area to assist you.
