    How do you install a transistors with mica ? do i need heatsink compond if so how do I put it on ?

    With mica you *do* need heatsink goop. Don't use too much, just a thin layer on both sides of the mica is all you need. Be sure that the outer surface (to-3 and to-220 connects to the collector) does not contact the heatsink surface.....meter it to be sure...it *must* be isolated. To-3 sockets will normally be self aligning and isolated, to-220 needs the plastic shoulder washers on the top side to provide isolation.

      I use a camel hair brush cut down to about 3/8". I put a thin layer on the heatsink, and another layer on the transistor. I stick the mica spacer to the heatsink and then I carefully put the transistor in place. After I snug the transistor in place I wipe off the excess glop with a tissue.
