  • Need to replace or repair 10" speaker

    Hi,
Don't know where else to ask this.
Picked up this old Admiral 7c65 radio. Guy was using it in his garage.
My question to the forum is what do I do about this speaker...?
The guy was playing the radio with that speaker like it is. What with the output transformer mounted on the frame is this something I can use a permanet magnet speaker with and move the OT? I don't know how to proceed with this, the schematic doesn't really help me figure this out.
Whats my best course of action? What would you do?
Also, when I measure across the leads with my DMM the reading is "0.5"???
This with the radio on or off... I don't know what ohm this is. Who can help me with this?

    Thanks

The seamed cone, paper surround, solder eyelets, and the way it fell apart (!) all show that it is a Jensen. You could replace it with a new Jensen P10R. Jensen also makes OEM recone kits for these, so you could go that route as well if you don't want to transfer the OT to another frame.

You are reading across the OT secondary with your DMM. You need to disconnect one of the secondary leads to get a correct DC resistance reading.

      Thanks for the reply John,

So I take it this is a permanent magnet speaker and any permanent magnet of the correct ohm would work with the OT transfered?

Yes, and even the transformer is not critical.

I'm sorry, I don't get your meaning about the OT???

Well, you CAN use just about any 10" PM speaker that will fit. And you CAN use any OT floating around that is similar in size and ratings, if the original is not viable.
