  • Hammond A0-29 to 5E3?

    Hi,
I just got a Hammond amp, an A0-29 and it's complete and supposedly was working when pulled from an organ that was beyond repair.

Would you suggest taking it down to it's core and rebuilding it to a 5E3 or completely tearing it down to parts and starting from scratch? This is assuming it really does work as advertised.

Personally I'm leaning towards a complete tear down for a couple reasons:
    1. I've never really seen a decent write up on the specific conversion so I'd be doing a lot of math (not a strong point for me) to get everything right.
    2. A complete tear down would allow me to know exactly what's what in there rather than assuming parts are functionally OK & chasing ghosts later.

In any case I wouldn't be reusing any electrolytic caps.

Anyone here done one like this? Any suggested links for research on my own before I get the iron hot?

    Cheers,
    - JJ

I would gut the amp and reuse what you can. 5E3 would be a good project if your skill level is not high.

That thread should help with some ideas.
