  • voltage doubler

I have a converted bogen chb100,w the stock power supply putting 450v on the 7868 plates. Can I change the diodes to a plexi type rectifier, and do away with the voltage doubler, thus dropping the power supply voltage. As I understand the data sheet the 7868 will run on 300v-350v.The pt puts out 275v bfore rectification on each side.I am looking for a warmer tone and have tweaked the front end alot,it's pretty in your face.

    I found this schematic:

Where and how are you measuring 275V? I would think a full wave bridge would give something less than 300V. It might not be what the tube manual calls for but you should get something like 20-30 watts out of it so give it a try.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
