  • baldwin organ amp to guitar amp conversion

im making an guitar amp out of a baldwin organ amp. it has these tubes: 6bq5 x 6, 12ax7 x 5, and a 5u4gb rectifier tube. ive been looking around at schematics, but havent found one that would use the tubes i have and would be relatively easy to build. if anyone has suggestions, i would appeciate it. thanks!

also, do you think it would be a better idea just to build a preamp and add it to this?

(attached is a pic i found of the same amp i have)

      schematics and layouts

With 12 tubes, no wonder you had trouble finding an "easy' schematic! You don't have to use all the tubes & I personally wouldn't.

If you download ExpressSCH (which is FREE - above), you can check out some of these schematics and layouts

You can also look on the 18watt forum or 36 watt forum
      http://18watt.com/

It's somewhat challenging to give you directions to consider when you haven't stated what you're wanting. 2 EL84's (6BQ5) can get you about 18watts and 4 EL84's will get you about 30-36 watts.

I'm old enough to have blown out my hearing primarily in my left ear so I avoid amps over about 25 watts and usually play closer to 8- 14 watt amps.

I have converted numerous Bogens. I always gut the amps and use paralleled terminal strips to convert the amp into something I want. Another option would be to not use the chassis but take the PT, OT and sockets and put them into another chassis. Look at the blank chassis on the site below:

        Hi

I might have the schematic for that amp at home and will check when i get there. I have the same amp at home and many other organ amps lying around. a friend is installing a preamp in another 2 channel balwin amp i salvaged from an old organ that came with 2 15" blue Alnico Jensen speakers.
