  • PT and OT for HiWatt DR504. Where???

Looking for where to buy the PT and OT for a HiWatt DR504 build. Particularly having issues with finding the OT. That is to say, somewhere where I won't be paying ~$700 for both of them.

Mojo seems to be out of the OTs. They have been "Temporarily" out of them for months now. Mercury Magnetics wants ~$300+ for each of the PT and OT!!

Looking for somewhere in the US.

    Cheers!!

There are in Italy. https://www.inmadout.com/ I think can get both OT and PT for 300$.

I would call Heyboer. They are a PITA because they don't have any sort of catalog, you basically need to call and ask them, but their prices are usually reasonable, and they are very friendly. They do list Hiwatt on their website. They may even be the ones making the transformers for Mojo. When I called to ask about Valco transformers they had some partially finished ones sitting there and finished one up for me, so it doesn't hurt to ask.

I'll contact my guy at Hiwatt Toronto to see if I can purchase them for you. I handle all of the repair work here in the LA Area for Hiwatt. Might also be able to purchse the brand of Electrolytic Caps they use inside.

That would be great! I would appreciate any help with getting these.

I tried calling Heyboer. I spoke to their guy and he told me he would check their stock and call or email me back and let me know how much and how to purchase. That was about 30 hours ago. Never called back. Never emailed

EDIT: Called Heyboer. They won't have stock for another 6-8 weeks. Any other leads are appreciated. REASONABLE leads that is

No offense, but you are asking for where to get very niche parts, but don't want to spend a lot of money and don't want to wait to get them. I think people here have been super REASONABLE in offering you leads.

An interesting note in Hiwatt's wiring: The very tight twist characteristic of their Heater Wiring is cerated using solid 20AWG Wire with somewhat loose-fitting colored rubbery sleeving over the wires. They do the same with the point-to-point wiring on the Turret Boards to connect to the pots and feeds from the Preamp board to the power amp board. Most (but not all) of the circuit interconnect between components on the Turret Boards are connected on the bottom side of the board, so very tedious to figure out their wiring scheme. I have a few road maps to their boards. Had to figure it all out on the DR501 I built for myself back in summer 2022.

I have a Partridge PT and OT for a model FL112 which is a 100W Hiwatt. If you want to do a little cross referencing and think that'll work for you, let me know.
If I have a 50% chance of guessing the right answer, I guess wrong 80% of the time.

No offense taken here. You are correct though... I want the parts I need for a reasonable price as quickly as possible. I don't want to wait 8 weeks for them to "maybe" come back to stock. I would also like to get them both from the same place so I am not paying 2x the shipping costs.
Yes, there have been some leads here however, they have not quite panned out as of yet. I am very appreciative of the assistance I have received. That is for sure!
I am still working the issue and hope to have a solution that fits my needs. Thanks!

What are the reasons for replacing both? Are they both bad? That would be extremely rare.

I think he is building a amp from scratch, not repairing one. Anyway, genuine Hiwattt transformers are not going to be the cheapest by a long shot.

You got it! Looking to build the DR504.
Just pulled the trigger on a Mojo kit. I figured if I was going to be paying ~$500 for the iron, I might as well just pay the little extra for the whole kit and get it properly drilled and have all the hard work done for me Plus, I was able to get a discount so it worked out for the best!

Cheers to everyone who contributed info and tips! It is much appreciated!!

Who's transformers are in the Mojo kit? Yeah, if you don't have access to a suitable chassis and lack the facilities of metal working tools to punch/drill all the mounting holes & the layout tools to place them accurately, then a pre-punched chassis is the way to go. I have all the tools, though no longer have access to a Hager Press, large sheer and press brake for fabricating one-of chassis (I come from manufacturing, engineer from BGW Systems in Hawthorne CA when they were in business). My Hiwatt DR201 Bass Amp clone with power tube measurement test points was built the first year of Putin's invasion into Ukraine set that into motion, as the sanctions on Russia sent the access to vacuum tube on the planet into a tailspin. Having my shop on CenterStaging's facilities (where I service all their backline gear), I was given a couple stage props built by Blackstar...S200 Bass Amps. Chassis's were suitable for the project and made use of a working power and output transformer, though had to add additional xfmrs for the heater supply and the screen supply).

I haven't yet received a reply from my contact at Hiwatt regarding the two xfmrs, if still needed.

I got a reply from the director of Hiwatt Toronto, asking me what the two transformers are for. I haven't replied having read this last thread from you on your post seeking power and output transformers for this project. Are you going ahead with purchasing the Mojotone Custom 50 Amp kit, which does have transformers? I'll wait to reply to Hiwatt after hearing back from you.
