deluxe reverb Hum

I have a Fender Deluxe reverb RI that has constant "hum" coming from the reverb. Doesn't matter whether guitar is plugged in or not, if reverb knob turned up , the hum is relative. there is no "crash"sound when you jolt the amp. I would appreciate any and all responses. thanks, chetdoug

Welcome to the board.

It sound like there is either a broken wire inside the reverb tank or the cable that connects the tank to the amp is not making good contact.

I'd start by feeling for the cable ends through the reverb bag on the bottom of the amp. Because there is no splash from the tank the problem lies in the output of the tank, which will be to the right side as you face the back of the amp.

Try to twist the RCA connector in the socket to clean the connection. If the reverb splash returns as you do this then plug in you guitar and check to see if it is working now.

If the reverb splash does not return, then you will have to remove the tank from the bag to inspect the small transducer wires. Remove the tank from the amp and check the small wires that connect the small transducers to the RCA jack. Look for broken wires or bad connections where the wires insert into the push on connectors.

If you have a ohmmeter check the wires for continuity and also check the resistance of the coils. On the input side of the tank, the reading should be 1 or 2 ohms. On the output side of the tank the reading should be somewhere around 200 ohms.

deluxe reverb hum

I checked out the connections, took out the reverb tank, cleaned the connections, no broken wires, etc. and there is very little hum., now. I don't expect to get rid of all the hum, if you turn the reverb knob to 10. Much quieter than before. I didn't know if it was going to be any tubes that caused the hum. When you're playing, you don't hear the hum, anyway. thanks, very much for your help.

Deluxe reverb hum

I still have the intermittent roar/hum on the reverb, even tho the reverb works fine. Part of the time, the reverb is completely quiet, others, quite a hum. It is coming from the reverb only, no other noise.

I have no knowledge of the amp you have but I would wonder if the tank is grounded at both ends. Some new tanks have the ground lifted at the input or output. Maybe you have access to another tank with a different grounding scheme?
