The extent of my knowledge when it comes to amp heads is very simple.
I recently bought a framus cobra and it had a buzzing the closer I get to it on the side with the standby switch. I was able to play it for a minute or 2 before I bought it to ensure nothing was wrong and it had an annoying buzzing to it. I figured it wasn't a big deal, maybe the cable i was using or the guitar was shitty. Anyways...I brought it home and hooked it up. Let it warm up and dialed some tones in. This thing wasn't buzzing at all and sounded amazing.
I do remember the guy had an OD pedal in front of it pushing his crunch channel. maybe that was why it was buzzing? ANywho i plugged up a dunlop crybaby today for a few min just to check out the sound and it was making a weird buzzing the closer I got to the amp. None of my amp heads have ever done this. So not knowing much about the amp becuz i just bought it, i can tell you that the previous owner had it retubed and biased about 5 months ago. He said it was a matched quad set. Is this something that can be easily diagnosed by an amp tech if I just bring it to him? I don't have a lot of money to drop on repairs at the moment. Has anyone got an idea what it could be? The stand out thing is that the closer I get to the amp head and when it's more in the direction of the area of the amp that has the standby swithc/power switch it buzzes/hums even louder. The closer I get to the amp head with the guitar the more amplified the buzzing is. This is my first post on this forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you
