  • 6L6 pin 3 diodes?

I was looking at 2 different schematics for my Acoustic G60t, and noticed that one shows diodes between pin 3 and ground, while the other shows those diodes Xed out. Can anyone here tell me what those diodes are for? My amp has them, but I was wondering why they would have been deleted from the one schem. I looked around the net for other amps with those diodes, and I found a Sovtec with them (I'm sure there are others) Anyway, I'm just curious
    Thanks, Dan

They're protection diodes. If something happens (like your amp is run without a load) and your OT starts to have voltage spikes larger than the reverse voltage of the diodes, the voltage will be shunted to ground. It's a simple way to protect your OT.

This thread discusses them and other ways to protect your OT.
