  • Cabs Suitable for Vox AC50 CPH?

I bought a Vox AC50 CPH used, and I think I like it, but I'm not really sure.

I'm using a Peavey Windsor 4x12 cab, (because it was VERY inexpensive), and I'm thinking this may be the source of my indifference with the Vox. The DI section is fantastic, so I question the cab.

I do know that the EQ controls affect more than just "bass" "mid" "treble" on these amps... eg: turning up the highs will roll off the mids quite a bit also... so I'm still in tweaking mode on this amp.

All that being said, I'm getting a bit frustrated, and I'm fairly close to tossing in the towel and replacing the head with a DSL 50, but I'd love to get some input first. My fear is I won't really like any amp until I get rid of the cheapo cab. (Nothing against Peavey... I also own a Valveking 2x12 and love it!)

Can anyone lend some insight on either the amp or the cab, and maybe make some recommendations for a cab replacement?

    Thanks!

I'd consider putting better speakers in the cab first. Might be a cheap option. Brit styled speakers will be an obvious chioce, and Vintage 30's, Greenbacks, G12H30's, etc would all probably suit you well.

Using new Fane Alnicos is a good idea.
Fane International - Axiom Series Guitar Speakers
A friend of mine is using them for 2 years now in an old Vox 2x12"cab with a Vintage AC50 head for a great sound. He had vintage Celestions before but the Fanes are much better, more kind of a living 3-D sound, so to say.
