  • amp looses volume

I have a peavy classic 30 and the other day while i was playing it just cut off and it smelled like something was burning. today i pluged it in and try playing but every time i hit a note it plays and then quickly drops in volume. I dont know whats wrong with it

    Burning smells are not acceptable.
Sounds to me like the Peavey needs a tech?

You prolly had a pwr tube go south. The smell coulda been the screen resistor over dissapating. Could be something in the pwr supply as well, but I'd say its likely tube failure related. Since something was burning, you need to have it checked out by a tech to find out what was overheating and what was causing it so it can be corrected.

Yah, I'll second the motion that it's probably your EL84's "going down". I would add that you should replace all four power tubes, and not just the "culprit".
