  • Multiple Inputs used simultaneously

I have a Greer Thunderbolt 30, all tube head. It has both a high gain and low gain input. Is it bad for the amp to run two cables (stereo) from my pedal chain to both inputs simultaneously? The sound I'm getting from using them together is huge and so rich, but would hate if that were bad for my amp. Thoughts?

I wouldn't think it would hurt anything. I do similar things with Fender amps and have never had a problem but wait and see what some of the more experienced people have to say.

Best to contact the manufacturers Greer Amplification as no schematics are available.
But I really don't see how you might damage anything by using both inputs simultaneously.
If that was the case then the design would have 1 input and a switch for hi/lo gain.

You can do that, but *both* inputs will effectively be a "low" input if its wired like an old Fender.

          Hmmm... how old?
On all BF and SF Fenders I know, both inputs are "high" if jacks #1 and #2 are used simultaneously. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Some of my Peaveys become low gain if both are used simultaneously, according to their manual.

I know of one amp that inserts the "low" input between the first and second stage, effective making a 4 stage amp in the "high" setting a 3 stage amp in the "low" setting. (Soldano Avenger).

Mar$hall has done that alot. The JCM 800 2203/2204 is set up that way. I'm sure there's plenty of copies that are similar. The low input sounds like ass straight in with a guitar, but is ok with some sort of pedal first. Dunno about the Soldano since it has more gain stages....
