  • MESA Boogie 400 Plus Blowing Fuses

Mate had a problem with his Mesa Bass head, it just died and blew both the plug fuse and head fuse. It was then working again few days later when fuses were changed.
After a while it then blew fuses and fizzed, he then asked me to have a look at it as i have fixed fair few amps in the past and basically found the Bridge Rectifier is completely shot and i will need to replace the Diodes and Capacitors.
I have tested the transformer for shorting but it gives good readings on secondary windings and primary windings with no short to casing?

Do you have any other ideas what could have caused such a fault, could the bridge just have given way and this be the main short as it was very black?

    Thanks
    Ian

The bridge rectifier "may" have given up the ghost.
Then again something downstram demanded more current than it could supply.
    Poof!
I would remove the tubes, repair the power supply, check the downstream side of the rectifier for shorts, blown resistors, etc,& give it a careful tube by tube test.
