  • aby question

    hey guys
i've been told by "they" that you cant use an aby switch on the output of an amp to change speakers. i asume its because of the large current flow in the output of a tube amp, but i have a number of solid state and hybrid amps that i believe have a small current flow in the output?
Can i use an aby in the output of theses amps to switch speakers?
    thanks

I believe the reasoning goes as follows.

Tube amps can be damaged if run with the speaker disconnected, even momentarily.

When you operate an ABY switch, there is a brief instant during which the amp is connected to neither speaker.

With solid-state amps it shouldn't be a problem. With hybrids it may or may not be.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"
