Mercury Magnetics are selling a 'heavy duty' AC mains lead for $9.99 (50% introductory offer)...

Mercury Magnetics -- The Guitar Amp Transformer Company

For the sake of ten dollars I'm trying one out - at the worst, I have another AC lead (and they always come in handy).

As a rule, For Old Style Amps, Isn't the AC way to high These Days.
When I was a kid you were lucky if you had 110V AC, Now we have 120- 127 Volts in my area.
So unless your cord is way bad, your PT voltage is going to be on the High side Anyway.
I've read over and over on the 5E3 Site where the Voltages are too high for 6V6s.
I like good Quality Parts, but not the Cork Sniffing Kind!
So the Ad is just more smoke and Mirrors.

Oh the case can be made that heavier AC cords will provide a more steady supply as current fluxuates. I doubt it makes much difference, but there is a rationale. They won;t get my money though.

LOL, yeah it is overpriced and ya know unless you have a O'scope for a ear you will never hear any difference.. After all over a crowd and wind, etc.. Good power starts from the initial wiring in the building right to the amp itself.

Yeah the Hendrix cords... yep coils.. you know the ones that buzz when you pull on then, and you came thump the cable and hear it through the amp..

In all good wiring and proper line Voltage and Filtering = the best chance at pure tone.

Now what about those goofy Magnetic break away Cables! nice price there too.

What most of the fanatic fringe tweakos seem to forget is that good power starts at the power generating station hundreds of miles away. By the time it gets to the building, it's already been dirtied by passing through random pressure clamped aluminum wire connections, and the power-line detritus of welders, electric motors and the amplifiers of barbershop quartets. By the time it gets through the power lines and the building, the electricity is already tired out and dirty from all that stuff.

But help is on the way to those abused and neglected musicians who have for too long suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous AC power. My (tm) (r) (c) Patent Pending (tm) Dollhouse Power Cleaner and amplifier vacuum will clean up that nasty hash from the building and make for purer AC, the only One True Way to get good sound. Forget that sarcastic stuff about good tone coming from your fingers. Good Tone (tm) comes from the Dollhouse, which not only makes the AC to your amp Pure and Innocent (tm) but also sends waves of talent through the AC cord and into your fingers through the guitar cord, which you touch as a point of contact. You don't need talent, skill or experience to be a Guitar God, just a Dollhouse Power Cleaner.

The Dollhouse Power Cleaner comes on a 4ft by 8ft base of hand selected and matched laminated pine from environmentally sensitive renewable forests, which by itself sequesters carbon and lowers the carbon footprint of the entire planet (note: to preserve environmental goodness factor, do not burn the Dollhouse Power Cleaner!) and has an enclosure resembling a real Dollhouse, which contains patented Corrective Wiring to undo the abuse suffered by the poor electrons in the power line. The Corrective Wiring provides helpful support, rest and relaxation and theraputic diversion to these electrons, giving them a 23 nS rest on their way so they arrive at your amp, rested, refreshed and ready to Rock and Roll. The controls of the Dollhouse Power Cleaner are made in the form of old-style power transmission poles to give a user-friendly reminder of the legacy of rural electrification that brought peace, harmony and political messages to the rural heartland in the form of power and television. It is decorated in a tasteful reproduction of Heartland (tm) vegetation, reminding us all of our duty to help green the planet respectfully.

The Dollhouse Power Cleaner is available by special order for only $2,473,845.00 plus $133,286 shipping. Not sold in stores! (Dealers, contact us privately.) We donate part of our profit to Save The Icecaps, Give 'Em Air, and Power to the... er, never mind that last one. When you get your custom (Modded~!!!) Dollhouse Power Cleaner, it will be delivered in a reusable, recycle-able shipping enclosure composed entirely of recycled post-consumer fiber, and delivered by certified minority freight handlers accompanied by a violin quartet playing electron-soothing selections from the Pre-Carbon Era.

I've seen blind tests run by skeptics and have heard differences myself. A power cord can make a difference in the sound of the amp. It is not a big difference. It is not a difference that will matter going into different rooms and different audience sizes or different anythings. But if you're in your favorite studio and you've got everything dialed in to taste and you have run out of things to tweak, sure.

For everybody else, cleaning all their tube sockets, plugs and jacks and exercising the knobs on the amp will make more difference. And yes, those things will make a diff, even if you aren't hearing a "problem."

I say buy the can of DeOxit first.

There has never been a true DBT published that concluded people could hear a difference with a power cord.

Sorry but I call BS. Publish your sources please.

"I think they only double plate now"
Nothing is said about the power switch in the unit.
                            Eeew. Copper contacts. Yuck.
What about the wire in the house?
                            (Heaven forbid they used aluminum)
Or the breakers in the mains box?
Or the lines from the transformer.
                            Gold plate them all!
Just watch out for worn dies.

Hey... I just realized that as other audiophile innovations make the music ever clearer and more distinct, no one as been focusing on the listener, who is, after all, part of the listening experience.

I have found that my perception of deep, full bass depends strongly on how completely or incompletely I am coupled to the substrate (i.e. floor) by my shoes and socks. Remember how much speaker bass is affected by solid connection to the floor and the dramatic improvement given by speaker spikes to hold them firmly in place.

The shoes have their own issues - which are under investigation now! - but by careful experimentation I have concluded that not only does the fiber composition and weave have an effect, but so does the *color* of the socks. Cotton gives a "dry" sound, while wool, as you would expect, gives an indistinct, slightly blurred (if warm...) and, well, wooly sound. Cotton-rayon is a good mix, the rayon imparting some accuracy to the otherwise dryer sound of cotton.

I found accidentally that white socks are too bright, while the darker browns and blacks seem to have a dimming effect on the highs. A medium neutral gray seems to be overall best for critical listening. It may be that for fun listening red socks would have a party effect, and for quiet, contemplative listening (or for being environmentally responsible) green would be better.

I have found a particular shade of neutral gray that gives the clearest, most accurate sound for critical listening. We (it is, after all, time to adopt the first person plural, now that we have a gimmi... er, scientific basis for our products) have made arrangements for a limited number of the proper color and fabric mix of listening socks to be hand-knit by Icelandic virgins for people wanting the best possible listening experience. It is important to order from us early, as we already have a six month waiting list for our proprietary Sound-Sox. We continue to experiment, and are extending the inquiry into shoe material and style, as well as the proper underwear for listeners who care about their sound. Note: Sound-Sox are meant to be worn on the feet while listening, not on the ears as one misguided tester tried. Sound-Sox on the ears leads to an overly warm sensation to the sound and early listener fatique, and in extreme cases fever and an urge to listen to that secret cache of disco LPs.
