  • hot rod deluxe-high notes ping like a sitar

Ive got a HRD that sounds great......except on the high e and up-it sounds like an echoy pinging after ring. Tone settings dont eliminate it and I get it on all pickup settingsFender Strat w/texas specials. Could this be tube related?

Hey, it worked for Ravi Shankar...

SO with the amp running, tap on each tube with a pencil or your fingernail. Give it a good thwack, like flicking a bug off your sleeve. That will tell you if the tube is microphonic - it will come out the speaker.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

I've had that problem previously on different amps here and there; it is always cured by doing exactly what Enzo suggests. Usually it's the first preamp tube - so many of the new ones that sound good are microphonic, especially in combos.

        It's not a guitar set-up issue, right?
