  • Peavey classic 30 soft

    Hi.
I have a peavey classic 30 for repair. Problem is the sound from speaker is soft. Other than that everything seems fine(Voltages, etc)
    I have the schematics.
Does anyone have a schematic that states the different Voltages/waveforms at different points in the circuit for a given input signal??
This would really help me nail it down as I do not have another amp to compare with.
    Thanx in advance yall!!!

Not offhand, that is not the sort of thing OEMs provide.

But isolate your problem. COnnect the amp to a different speaker. How does that sound? If that sounds OK, you simply have a bad speaker. If it sounds the same, then the amp has the problem.

The amp has an efects loop. Plug your signal into the FX return, thus bypassing the preamp. Does that sound strong and clear through the speaker? Or does it sound like the problem still. That tested the power amp. Now plug the signal into the regular input jack, and conect a cord from the FX send jack to some other amp for a listen. How does that preamp signal sound coming out the other amp? Sound OK? Or has the problem? You don;t need another Classic 30 to compare, ANY amp will serve for these tests.

And never operate the amp without a speaker load.

SO that should isolate your problem to either the speaker, the power amp, or the preamp.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

      Thanx Enzo.
Your method as described work really well in determining where the problem lied. It was in preamp section. Someone had resoldered the whole board for some reason, and made a solder jumper accross two points. Luckily I spotted it. Whew!!
