  • Plexi pre + AB763 back end?

Hey hey hey. This has to have been done before and I'm not looking to reinvent the wheel. I'm looking to build another lil' amp with a twist. Here's the idea - I literally took two of Hoffman's layouts and combined them. Can you tell me where I'm going wrong? I'd ideally like to use only the bright channel, so no need for another input jack. Qould it be better to build a plexi clone and just swap in 6550s/6l6s and rebias?

I don't see why not, there is going to be a bit of sag from the power supply and I might have used diodes.
You probably need to adjust those 10K resistors so that there is a fairly high voltage in the preamp tubes supply.
That will get more headroom and sound more like a Marshall.
Down in No'leans, why don't you say hi to Louie Ludwig and John Autin for me? AAA-EEEE!
