  • It's time to play Name That Tag Board!

    What are they for?

Pretty sure they are both Fender boards but what models?

Have you seen so many of these that you can pick them out by sight?

The top one looks like the board to a Fender Champ. The bottom one is like a princeton or a deluxe maybe?

I don't have time to look through my data books and I can't tell you from memory which amps models those boards fit.
However, the top one is not from a Champ because you can see the remnants of the PI for a PP output stage and the two channel summing resistors. (The black board era Champ is a single ended output stage amp) I don't believe that any of the later 2x6V6 Super Champs used black eyelet boards.
      Cheers,
      Tom

        Here's a WAG.
The top board is from a Silverface era amp. (Evidence the 1W CC resistors which are about the only original parts left and the "T2" type of marker used in the center section) AND it's probably from 1968 or 1969 based on the type of insulation showing on the stubs of the flying wire leads)
        Cheers,
        Tom

wow, were they using plastic insulated wire as early as the late 60's? Seems like a harder plastic than what would be found later on.

I was thinking maybe a bassman, but it's not quite matching the layouts I've looked at. Close, but no cigar.

Yes. Between the cotton covered wire and the horrible later silverface wire there was a brief period when Fender used wire with thin hard insulation. During that time the wire dress was still very nice and very few silverface circuit changes existed.

I just worked on a silverface that had a black board like that, but I should have said super champ. Cause that's the one I think. Ya, the bias circuit is mounted on a terminal strip, not the board. It had a photocell, but I think somebody modified the board in the picture.

                Mort,
I think that the top board is from an AB165 Bassman!
The eyelet layout matches and the original looking disc cap in parallel with the 100K 1W resistor near bottom center plus the disc cap to the right of it are further evidence.
