soundguruman's calculator must be out of batteries.
$25 for a new PT plus less than $10 in parts at Digikey is a very good business in my book.
Unless, of course, cowabungamusic is as clueless as a certain "repairman" who I *will* name, who has not the slightest idea where to get such exotic and unavailable parts as "C 3198, C 4370, A 1837, A 1266" so he asked fot NTE equivalents.
Maybe adding "2S" at the beginning was too esoteric
Since such repair was "over his head", he wanted to buy the whole board and just plug it in.
Of course, with such poor skills at troubleshooting things get expensive real fast.

Default 5500 HAS EXPLODING CAPACITORS, (any mod or parts to prevent this?)

    Yo dogs,
Is there any Hartke genius(es) that have a mod for the 5500 power amp module? Parts be esplodin and stuff!
This is a HA3500 power amp board V1.2
Does anybody stock these transistors, or do you just use NTE whatever...?
    C 3198
    C 4370
    A 1837
    A 1266
So far I got 11 parts on this board that burned, is this normal? But all the outputs are good. Seems like the PNP final driver shorted and took everything previous out.
Is there any replacement P amp modules, or are you on your own out there? Any insight appreciated, thanks.
    (from repair shop swine)
Yes, he *always* says that "parts have smoke inside" , that "capacitors explode" and such.
Well, maybe that always happens when he tries to "repair" something.
Did he post such ignorance ages ago, when he was starting into this?
*Nobody* is born knowing, so lack of experience is always forgiven.
But this happened in July 2011, just a few months ago, long after he had been laughing at *our* ignorance and stupidity for trying, well, to actually "repair" stuff.
Yet he claims to be , well, a "Sound Guru" with over 30/35 or 40 years experience (the number quoted depends on the phase of the moon)
His ads in magazines run typically:

In case the letters in the ad are too small to read, the name quoted there is "Michael S. Friedlander" of Grover Beach, California.

SGM, he wasn't paying anyone for labor, and his parts cost was $25. And if we had to put a dollar value on every repair, we'd soon stop fixing anything. SOME people come here to learn, and what better way than working on their own amp? Even if they could do something else for less.

Oh, why bother trying to convince an ignoramus of anything?

            Hi Jason.

Take that part number and call Loud Technologies, see if they might still have one.
