  • Fender Deville 410 Buzz In A

Ok, I am new to tube amps but I gatta say for my blues style... Holy crap! it's amazing... That being said let me get to my issue... When I first crank the amp on it doesn't do it... but about 3-4 minutes after the amp if cookin I assume the tubes expand or whatnot... anyway it starts at high volume and after about 20 minutes it will do it at a relatively low volume as well... When I play bass driven notes very strong in A oddly enough it's there but weaker in Es, there is a harsh BUZZ/HISS sound... The amp is basically brand new but I got it from a salvage company... The store next door to the music shop had burned down... so it could have faces a little heat but nothing extreme... Also when I touch the pre-amp tubes while playing the 1st 10 minutes or so... it will stop the hiss but when you let go... right back at it... I replaced one of the tubes and it stopped for a short time then started up again... I am not sure if the tube we replaced it with had the same problem or what... Anyway when I do the eraser test it's apparent there is SOMETHING going on with the tube because it's got s totally different tone than the other one... My question is ... New tube? or is the amp killing the new tubes causing the sounds?

Please let me know because I have had this thing less than a week... and to be honest it's really pissing me off... Show on Tuesday I really don't want to use my solid state anymore... that thing sucks...
    Thanks guys!

Sounds like it could be a dirty/oxidized connection at one of the tube sockets or a bad solder connection. Try wiggling the tubes around in their sockets a bit.

If u shake the tubes all it does is make jingle sounds... How can I check to clean the socket? That could be the issue? I mean do I just get like a duster and blow out the connector?

Thanks for your help I am freaking out because it's a BRAND NEW from factory amp and because of the way I bought it there is no warranty...

Those amps are notorious for cold solder joints. A band mate of mine had that problem with his Deville-it would heat up and the connections would loosen and he'd get the same issues you're having on bass notes. You may have to reflow some of the joints or have a tech do it. Those amps are also very tough on tubes and can make them microphonic pretty quickly when you play them at any kind of volume. I started using NOS tubes with dampers and that solved the problem on the ones I owned, at least long enough for me to sell them.

Are you saying I should try to offload that amp?

No not at all. I think they are great sounding amps. I owned a Blues Deville back in the mid 90's and loved it but sold it because it never left my house because I hated lugging it to gigs. A few years later I missed it and bought a Hot Rod Deville and sold it for the same reason. The cold solder joint problem is a simple fix so if you love the amp absolutely keep it. It's just a common problem with those amps.

                FIXED!

I actually replaced all of the pre-amp tubes and it stopped doing it!! Apperently the last one I put in there was busted just like the one I had... I put the dampener on there as well I think this will help it last longer... I'll tell you this much my Lenny and Rivera Paradise have never sounded better... I freakin love this amp!!!

Thanks for all your help guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                  Huh.
                  A bad preamp tube.
                  Go figure.
Yeah, the Deville in a 4x10 configuration is awesome.
Glad that you got it sorted out.
