  • dual section caps - ok just to use one section?

title says it all really but I'll fill in the gaps. I've recapped my '76 Superbass head with the original value caps but there is some pretty serious filtering going on in there.

I'd like the disconnect some of the sections from the dual section caps on the screen & plate filtering to loosen the 'feel' up a bit.

Is it ok to run just one section of the dual section cap? - I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be ok but it can't harm to ask. thanks in advance.

I can't think of anything detrimental either. Maybe just that the unused cap will degrade from not being used. I've used them like that, doesn't seem to be any problem.

Thanks for the reply Dai, I've never really played with filtering levels all that much - generally go by the rule of keeping the output stages stiff and the preamp stages looser (seems to have worked well on my homebrew amps).

With this Superbass I'm wanting to get close as possible to my old '67 Plexi - that was one bitchin amp!

I can't imagine the cap will ever know the difference.
