  • Bearpaw Amps - Jim Barrett

    Hello all,

I just wanted to put out a good word for Jim Barrett and his Bearpaw amps. He built a small 16 watt tube head for me (reviewed here:
    http://reviews.harmony-central.com/r...Watt+Head/10/1
) and I am really smitten with it.

I know many people here can make great amps, and I'm not trying to spam the threads, but dealing with Mr. Barrett has been a wonderful experience and I hoped to draw a little attention to him and his creations. He's a true gentleman.

Below is an attachment of the amp he made for me. It's built into a gutted Marshall Lead 12 cab. It's Class A, Single Ended, hand wired with a line out and those super neat-o old pointer knobs :-)

Here, you can see pics of some of his other stuff:

His prices are incredibly low, btw. I don't know if I could have bought all the parts for this thing for much less than he charged me.

That's crazy too, in the early and mid 70's I use to live on 6 mile right before Lasher/Grand River, down the street and around the corner from the cemetery off Telegraph Rd.... (you probably drove by it every day), . I played in most all the clubs around town in those days... I think we were the house band that closed the Chatterbox if you remember that one.

Yep, up to Grand River and head west each night to go home.

Looks like Bearpaw is close to 8 and Grand River, so I went past him as well.

That's a good looking collection you have there.

Back between 1984 and 1987 I lived in Schoolcraft, south of K'zoo and used to get up to Lansing regularly. I was a member of MARC at the time and knew some guys who followed radio up in the area.

the farthest I got was a General Radiotelephone Operator's license, and that only to allow me t olegally switch black boxes in airplanes.

I was in the Michigan Antique Radio Club at the time and I knew the people who founded it. I was great friends with a fellow from Albion by the name of Everitt Lincoln.
