  • AC15CC bright cap measured at 1,2n... ????

    Hi,

I've done a bright cap mod on an AC15CC for a friend. On his request, I've put the old cap on an on/off slider switch. Before to resolder the whole, I've measured the cap which was supposed to be a 120pf model. My multimeter has answered: 1.2n.

It's not a reading error: I was so surprised that I've compared it to a real 150pf cap in order to check my results...

Somebody has already seen such a thing? Any comment?

Thx to help me to give a meaning to this finding. :-)

This sort of thing happens to small builders from time to time. Why not a bigger manufacturer. In the case of the big manufacturer it may be a batch of caps that were shipped or allocated wrong. Meaning that many amps probably rolled off the line with this error. Just replace it with the correct value. Unless your friend ends up liking the tone with the wrong one better!

I assume he didn't like it, if he was asking for it to be modified.

Yes, it is probably a manufacturing error. Maybe even the cap manufacturer printed "121" instead of "122" on a batch.

understood and agreed. I was almost asking myself if it was an "intentional design".

        LOL. Absolutely!

I'm now wondering if most AC15CC's haven't been sold with this wrong component, when I see on the Web how many people do the bright cap mod...
