I think Dime used a Randall Warhead. There used to be a ton of them on Ebay but are becoming hard to find. He played through a 4 x 12 and a 2 x 15 cabs. I have heard though that his old rig, prior to the Krank, didn't really do what he wanted on its own so he had a crapload of peddle distortions and eq's to boost his signal through all his boards.

I wouldn't consider this the highest gain amp but it's the highest gain amp in my collection. Here is my Vintage Modern 2266 straight in with no pedals.

        Surprise ????
Kevin O'Connor did a "review" of High Gain preamps in TUT6. His conclusion was that a Carvin Legacy "ticked all the boxes" from a good design point of view and for sound.
        Who would have thunk it.
        Cheers,
        Ian

and yet the latest Carvin catalog showed Mr Vai in front of an AxeFX sitting on 2 Legacy II's, likely just using the poweramps...

I thought Hendrix on "Machine gun" was really a quantum leap; it remains among the best live sound I have heard, and everything from the studio is 80% engineer and not amp, IMHO
