  • Peavey Bravo Foot Switch not functioning.

    Hello All,

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Peavey Bravo 112 I just picked up on CL. Unfortunately, it came with a foot switch that switches from the clean to the overdrive channel and turn reverb on/off that doesn't work. It worked intermittently when I first got it home but quickly died on me and won't work at all. I tried two other Peavey switches with no luck. When I disconnect the foot switch I am able to toggle the channels from the switch on the front panel. I have not found any posts on this issue with the amp and given its popularity must be a rare problem. I haven't tried contact cleaner yet as I am out. I am not very optimistic it will be that easy of a fix but will get some of the De-Ox-It 5 or whatever Radio Shack has tomorrow and try that. I have the schematics but it has been 20 years since I have done component level repairs and my isolation techniques are a bit "oxidized" .

Just wanted to see if anyone on this forum has experienced this problem before and has some other input or advise.

    Thanks,

    The Dreaded Switching Jack Problem
    You are dual posting.
Here is what I replied:" As to the Bravo footswitch problem, if the front panel switch works than the circuit is sound.
The jack or the front panel simply 'grounds out' the relay.
Plus the jack has a normally closed contact to allow the front panel switch to function when there is not a foot switch inserted.
Which must be functioning or the front panel would not work.
So that leaves the footswitch itself.
It is a simple 1/4" plug . Tip & Ring.
Tip to Ring should connect or not connect.
That can be checked with an ohm meter. "

Sorry for the dual post. I'm not very proficient on these boards....

Well, "Jazz P Bass" that was it. The the ground cable on the switch has an open oddly enough. The cable is in good shape and can't find any crimps or cuts in it. Now I'm not sure what is up with the other switches I used. They work on another amp I have. I did dig up a third switch and it works great. Now off to cut and conquer the bad cable. I can't believe it was that simple!

      Thanks again!
