  • Egnater Rebel 20.

I've got an Egnater Rebel 20 in my shop and does anyone have a schematic for this? It has no output because there is only 8 volts at the preamp tubes plates. I think there is a bad resistor in the power supply but that's why a schematic would be helpful. The other thing, plate voltage at the output tubes, both el84 and 6v6 tubes is only 285 volts. That seems awfully low to me. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I located a schematic for this amp on this forum however, i think R 118 is burned open and the code on it is pretty faded. The schematic does not have the values of the resistors or caps for that matter. Does anyone know what the value of R118 is?

I repaired an Egnater Tweaker recently and it had burned out the same (screen supply) resistor as your Rebel. I initially just replaced the resistor and the shorted 6V6 which I thought was the problem but when I powered it up there was no sound even though it had current through the 6V6's cathode resistor but it was actually massive screen current not plate current. When I checked with a meter the screens were still powered but the plate voltage was zero. There’s a fuse in series with the OT CT which had blown. I think the massive screen current had killed the resistor (I don’t have a schematic). If the Rebel schematic is correct that couldn’t happen but I’d check it anyway. Remove F1 and check it disconnects both the plate and screen voltage. If you don’t find out the correct value for R118 I’d use 1k 10W. It was 1k 5W in the Tweaker but the Rebel has four output tubes (Tweaker only has two).

Hi Dave H. I just called Egnater and asked them and they actually told me the same thing you did. I'm surprised they told me anything. They said it's a 1 kohm 5 watt. The resistor i removed looked more the size of a 3 watt to me. So i installed a 5 watt. In the Rebel circuit this resistor is in line with the pre amp tube plates. I don't think i have the room to put a ten watt in it unless i stand it on its end. This same amp came to me about 2 years ago and the tube PC board was fried to a frizzle at the EL84 plate on one of the tubes. It was so badly damaged i had to cut tracings and use a piece of wire. Anyway it's working for now. Thanks for the input. How's England? I was at Lakenheath RAFB in 2000 on a bomb project for the U S Air Force and Raytheon. I want to return one day for a visit. Thanks.

I just managed to squeeze in a 1k 7W (it was all I had) but 5W should be OK for normal running. I think it was a tube short that caused the original to burn up. I had to repair the track too. The through plating came out as I tried to pull out the resistor. I should have soldered the new one to the cut off legs of the old one like a real tech would do then I wouldn’t have had to remove all the knobs to get at the back side of the pcb. If I did this for a living I’d be bankrupt by now.

Google tells me Lakenheath is in Suffolk. I don’t know that area. I live in the north west about 25 miles south of Manchester. This area has pretty market towns with black and white mock Tudor buildings, green fields with black and white cows and black and white Cheshire fencing.
