  • Need suggestions for a single EL34 amp (and transformer question)

Ok So I have enough parts lying around that I think I can build a class A low watt El34 amp.

I need suggestions on popular amp designs as I'm not very familiar with EL34 amps. This will be a gift for a neighbor friend of mine.

The PT and OT have these specs (to the best of my research)

    PT-
    355-0-355 150mA
    5v 3a
    6.3v 4a

    OT- 8ohms w/ CT (I think up to 20W)

Both transformers were pulls from an old Hammond organ amp.

Does this sound like a reasonable set of transformers for a single EL34 low wattage amp?

The PT is overkill for a single tube output, but will work fine.

      Mort,
I assume the CT in the OT is in the primary. If this is so the OT was designed for push-pull operation.
It *may* work but OTs designed for SE operation incorporate an air gap that is not found in P-P OTs.
I have seen "universal" OTs that claim to be suitable for either type of operation. Invariably they were low wattage output.
Hopefully people more knowledgeable than myself will weigh in on this topic.
      Good luck,
      SG
