If you don't subscribe to mob mentality...and you don't follow what others say like a blind sheep...and you have your own original ideas...
it makes a pretty big difference.
Yeah, it's really common for people to blame the amp when they are having problems.
But most of the time, they are creating the problem and blaming the amp for it...
That's pretty normal.
And although Fender and Marshall have been using 1/4 watt in tens of thousands of amplifiers...
I will be sure to tell them that their design is wrong. (according to YOU)
I prefer 1 watt plate resistors, but I also know that if a tube blows the resistor is no longer a viable fuse.
So I use 1 watt for lower noise according to my own preference.
They use 1/4 watt because if something goes wrong, they want the 1/4 watt to blow.
Which is understandable, to limit the damage.
But you don't agree with that. So Fender and Marshall must really be idiots, and you are a genius.
Yes I have repaired guitar amps for 34 years, and I better study up on it...
(That's why Fender made me authorized technician "for life." Because I need to study up on it.)
So, you think Marshall is a "BAD DESIGN"
and i think Crate is a bad design...
touch'e.
So, I guess you should play Crate amps instead. You won't have to endure that Marshall "bad design" any longer...
Yep, the two Marshalls I worked with had bad design.
1) If the tube goes bad, it's bad, it will be REALLY STUPID to blow a resistor along with it.
2) It will be really stupid to design to blow the rectifier if anything gone wrong with the power tube. AND I say it again.....STUPID.
3) It is stupid not to at least gives some measure to protect the expensive OT if people forget to plug the speaker in.
Do you even know the difference between design a circuit and trouble shooting a circuit? Anyone that have very primitive knowledge of circuits can trouble shoot a circuit. I don't know Crate, I am not interested in Crate, don't mix me up with others, you have your fights with others on that.

Yes you're right. Instead of blowing a resistor or rectifier diode when there's a short...
it should burn up the circuit tracks and power transformer
YES, that would be "ideal."
Boy, you sure are a smartty.

I think you are missing the whole point. In all the cases I've seen, the tubes were never bad!!!! It still have the same tube!!! The old plexi had all the exact power tubes until I sold it.
Do you know you have a fuse. You almost NEVER brow the power transformer even if you short out the secondary. It is such a big device it almost blow the fuse every time.
Or, could it be only Marshall will blow the PT?!!!
You don't need to take it ALL out.
Just make a few minor changes.
The tendency here is to over do it.
Just because it has SS switching, does not mean you need to gut the amp and re-design the entire thing.
You don't need to turn a small mod project into a huge overcomplicated rebuild of the entire amp.
You mean like the 35 mods or so on an amp built on a circuit board? You could buy a new amp with the labor cost you must charge. I'll bet you get lots of repeat business:$ You obviously can't run a business! I feel sorry for your boss, running away all of his customers. I 've worked with techs like you before, they get run off when it becomes obvious who can do the job right the first time and not screw over customers.

Fathead has spoken, All completely false.
But not surprised, trying to compensate for your obvious lack of knowledge and experience by attacking others...it's not working.
FYI: I don't have a boss, least of all YOU.
Really, honestly
I don't think you "even" know how to play electric guitar...
and you certainly don't understand much about amplifiers...
So just keep talking, the fact becomes more obvious as you do.
You guys don't seem to learn that attacking each other, serves no purpose.
We are all entitled to our ways, methods, and opinions.
Make your tech statement and please quit attacking each other.
IMHO this Thread should be cleaned up and closed.

Cut the post that have name calling, don't close the thread!!!
Sometimes it's best to just Clear the air and start over!
Closing a thread does not delete the posts, just makes it where there are no new posts, in that thread.
The Moderator can filter through and delete all negative posts and then if it continues, then close the thread.
I get tired of all the bickering.

Dude I can play rings around you and I can also do something you obviously can't. i can work with everyone in the band. If you were ever in a band for a day, you'd be kicked out because of the aweful sound of a marshall through JBL's or EV's
If I were working at the bench beside you, I'd do three times the work with no callbacks and repeat customers while you are still jamming pec pots into a peavey.

I didn't see anything out of line with his post, it was much less offensive than what SGM says on a regular basis. SGM get's pretty much a free pass around here and IMO is about the worst thing that has happened to the forum.
Yes, people are entitled to their opinions, but not to their own facts, as the saying goes. He has never ever stated anything as his opinion, it is stated as fact, and is usually BS.
I have seen new members never return because they are berated by him or told that their gear is junk, or that the problem is they don't know what they are doing, or are amateurs.
I have seen outstanding members stop posting because his nonsense goes largely unopposed and has damaged the reputation of this great forum.
I would suggest anyone inclined toward giving him the benefit of the doubt spend sometime reading all his nonsense. Click on user name, then "view posts". I would guess about 90% of it to be utter rubbish, useless, or regurgitation of other information trying to be passed off as his own idea.
I am offering a handsome reward for anyone who can have this virus removed from this forum.
