  • ´85 AC30 versus new AC30CC w/blue speakers?

    Hi!

I got a good offer on a used ´85 AC30, and I'm wondering if I should buy it. I thought it sounded good, but I've read some claims that AC30 from the 80s sound inferior to newer/older models. Is this true?
This amp does have point-to-point wiring, and has been going for 23 years - so I hope build quality should be good.
I've read about the new PCB-revision, the AC30CC, and the version with the blue speakers has gotten a lot of praise. How will this compare to the ´85 model?
I'm afraid to buy an expensive used amp, if I can get a new one that sounds equally good or better for a few 100 dollars more.

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for reading!

    info about ac30cc w/blue speakers

i recently got the new ac30cc amp with alnico blue speakers. From what i've played of it so far it sounds fantastic, and i haven't even put the amp past 9 o' clock! Its bloody loud! so it can only get better sounding as u put it up. It sounds good with various pedals. i like to put my full-drive 2 mosfet or a fuzzbox in front of it in order to put into distortion, especially because i dont put it up much. cant wait till a gig to really crank it up. Basically, if ur gonna be doin giggin more then the new one is probably more reliable and less likly to break down. also the new one is alot more versatile, it has and effects loop, blendable channels, master volume etc. what i recommend is that you go try out the new one and bring some sort of overdrive, fuzz or distortion pedal. I haven't tried out a vintage vox so i'wouldn't know how it compares, but from various guitar magazine reviews, it got all the magic sounds that has made the vox ac30 famous.

anyway, good luck in your quest for great tone!
